Ontario Dry Bean Acreage Down

Ontario growers will only plant 55,000 acres of coloured beans this year, reports Statscan. That is down from 75,000 last year. But the acres are up substantially from the March intentions report when farmers said they expected to plant only 40,000 acres.

White bean acres will be 5,000 lower at 80,000. In March farmers had intended to plant 75,000 acres.

Nationally coloured bean acres are estimated at 227.400 acres, down slightly from last year. White beans will see only 135,000 acres planted, down 15,000.
